Are you looking for something to help you cope with daily life and stress? I am a qualified psychotherapist and yoga teacher and have designed a course to complement one-to-one therapy. Counselling/psychotherapy can make us more aware of our behaviour but is often more in the head than the body. Learning to ground ourselves physically adds an extra level of self-awareness and ability to be centred. This course will focus on managing anxiety, depression and stress, to hopefully leave you feeling relaxed and grounded and with techniques to practice at home. It is held in a lovely quiet room. Please bring a yoga mat and jumper/blanket for relaxation.
I teach a slow, mindful form of hatha yoga, with a focus on breathing. We hold postures to allow the stretch to go deep and you to relax. I will include simple meditation and visualisations with mudras (hand gestures). I do a guided relaxation to finish. My aim is that you leave the class relaxed and grounded. You will see how by focusing on our body and breath we can slow our thoughts down. I draw on my personal practice, years of different forms of yoga training and reading about trauma/depression and the body through authors such as Bessel van Der Kolk and Amy Weintraub.

My yoga journey
I started doing yoga aged 17 at school and came back to it later when doing a stressful job in London and noticed how much better I felt physically and emotionally. Since then it has been part of my self care and fitness regime.
I was introduced to the spiritual side on an ashram in India and I loved the mix of postures, meditation and chanting. I returned to do yoga teacher training there in 2000 and have taught full-time and part-time since then.
I qualified as a counsellor in 2018 and have focused on that recently. But my yoga and meditation practice keeps me grounded and is an antidote to sitting still and concentrating in counselling. I know from my own experience how important it is to look after my physical and emotional wellbeing and will offer all of the techniques that I use in this course.
